Fashion Sakala set to head to Scotland to complete Rangers medicals

Fashion Sakala is heading to Rangers to put the finishing touches towards his permanent transfer from Oostende, Zambia manager Milutin Sredojevic has confirmed.

Rangers confirmed in May that Sakala, 24, will be joining them in the summer after a pre-contract deal was agreed.

However, the transfer had not been completely ratified as it was still subject to “international clearance and a work permit being received”. The Daily Record added a medical needed to be passed too.

Sredojevic has confirmed that Sakala has now been excused from international duty with Zambia to pass his medical checks in Glasgow despite him being a key player in his team.

“Fashion is about to realise his childhood dream of playing at a top football club,” said Sredojevic, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“He is going to Rangers in Scotland and is due to undergo medicals before he starts his training as he completes his switch from Oostende.

“The last thing I want to do is endanger his career through picking up an injury and it would be unfair to the country to summon him for national team assignments.

“We know that we need him in future, we know that he is very important, and we know that he is undoubtedly patriotic.”

Sakala’s coming to town

We have to tip our hat to Sredojevic because he would have no doubt preferred to have Sakala in his squad for Zambia’s upcoming matches.

However, he knows that part of being an international manager is keeping your players’ clubs happy and there’s no doubt Rangers will be thrilled with Sredojevic’s decision too.

Sakala will also appreciate Sredojevic’s decision too as it means he has less of a chance of getting injured ahead of pre-season training with the Scottish Premiership champions and help him hit the ground running in Glasgow.

We’re unsure of what role Sakala will play with the Gers next season.

At Oostende this term, the Zambian scored 16 goals in 34 matches in all competitions playing mainly as a centre-forward.

However, Steven Gerrard has several striker options with Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and, if he signs a new contract, Jermain Defoe at his disposal.

We could see one or two of them moved on but Sakala can also play on the right-wing, where options are slightly thinner for Stevie G.

We’ll see but we’re still happy that Sakala is coming to town.
