Rangers respond to Oli McBurnie transfer speculation

Rangers are not interested in signing Oli McBurnie from Sheffield United in the summer transfer window, according to the Heart & Hand Podcast.

On Thursday, we were shocked to read a story by the Daily Mail that claimed the Gers are pursuing a £15million move for the goal-shy centre-forward.

However, the Heart & Hand Podcast, who have sources at Ibrox, have managed to get a response out of Rangers in regards to the McBurnie transfer story.

It is understood there is “nothing” in the rumour linking the 24-year-old Scotland international with a move to Glasgow.

The Heart & Hand Podcast adds: “He’ll probably be one of those players linked with us every window as he’s a supporter.”

No surprise there

Rangers lost around £15million in the last financial year and Stewart Robertson has already said the club needs to start reducing their losses by selling players.

While we still expect one or two of Steven Gerrard’s title-winners to move on before next season, we very much doubt anyone will be joining the Gers for anywhere near £15million.

You cannot blame Sheffield United for wanting that much for McBurnie, who they signed for £20million two years ago.

However, the Scotland striker simply isn’t worth anywhere near that much to a team like Rangers, who already have proven goalscorers in Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and new arrival Fashion Sakala to play up front next season.

McBurnie scored just one goal in 23 appearances this season as Sheffield United were relegated from the English Premier League.

Since joining the Blades in 2019, he’s only made the net ripple seven times while he’s also struggled to score for Scotland, netting a grand total of zero goals in 17 caps.

McBurnie isn’t good enough for us and we’re delighted that the Daily Mail’s story has been rubbished.
