Michael Ball discusses possible Rangers transfer for Liverpool attacker Harry Wilson

Ex-Rangers defender Michael Ball suggests Liverpool attacker Harry Wilson would be a good signing for his former club in the summer.

Wilson, 24, has spent the season on loan at Cardiff City, where he’s scored seven goals and supplied 12 assists in 37 Championship appearances.

He’ll return to Liverpool this summer with another two years left on his contract but it doesn’t seem as though the 23-times Wales international has much of a future in Merseyside.

Ball suggests that Wilson could shine at Ibrox if he gets a chance to move to Rangers because Gers boss Steven Gerrard knows him on a personal level, like with Ryan Kent when he swapped Liverpool for Glasgow.

When speaking to Football Transfer Tavern, Ball was asked if Wilson can be another Kent at Ibrox and he said: “I feel he can. Harry’s been all over the place, on loan everywhere, but he’s finally got his opportunity at Cardiff.

“He’s developed well, his goals and all his stats are in the right direction. But it’s that personal direction as well with Steven, along with Ryan Kent, he knows what he’s like personally and that’s a great asset to have as a manager, when you know somebody, how they work every day in training and their attitude.”

It’s a bit obvious that Rangers will be forever linked with Liverpool players as long as Gerrard is the manager.

To be fair, the Gers boss has already shown that he’s willing to use his links at Anfield to sign players like Kent.

However, it just seems a bit easy to say that ‘because he has Liverpool links this player would be a good signing for him’.

Wilson’s had a good season at Cardiff, there’s no denying that.

However, he’s 24-years-old now and has played plenty of times for Wales yet he’s never really shown he’s Premier League class.

Last season, Wilson was on loan at Bournemouth in the Premier League and didn’t really set things alight as they were relegated.

He’s superb at free-kicks and scored a few of them but we have James Tavernier who’s one of the best set-piece takers in the UK.

Former Premier League golden boot winner Kevin Phillips, via Football Insider, has described Wilson as an “exciting attacking player” but we just don’t get the same feeling about the Welshman as we once did.

Plus, Gerrard has plenty of players who can play in his position.

In other Rangers news, it’s been confirmed this defender has agreed to quit Ibrox for another Premiership club.
