Ianis Hagi suitors win promotion to aid transfer swoop for Rangers star

German club Bochum were recently linked with a move for Rangers star Ianis Hagi and a major development on Sunday could help them clinch a deal.

Romanian news outlet Sport claimed earlier in May that Bochum had joined the likes of Lazio and Sevilla in the transfer hunt for Hagi.

But one obstacle of a move to the second-tier side was said to be the outcome of their promotion bid to the Bundesliga which went to the wire on the final day on Sunday.

However, Bochum beat Sandhausen 3-1 to win the 2 Bundesliga and reach the top-flight, which could aid Bochum in their quest for Hagi.

The 22-year-old wasn’t a regular for Steven Gerrard’s side in the first half of the season but he battled back to earn his spot in the starting XI and he ended up making 22 starts in the Scottish Premiership, scoring seven times. [Wyscout]

More to come

We think there’s still plenty more to come from the Romanian attacker so we’re hopeful that he and the club will reject any advances that are made in the summer.

Losing Hagi wouldn’t be a monumental blow like Ryan Kent or Alfredo Morelos, but he’s still a valuable member of the first-team squad who has plenty of potential.

With Champions League football on the agenda next season Hagi surely wants to stick around and test his talents in Europe’s premier competition.

He could get that at Sevilla, who came third in La Liga this season, but Lazio would only be able to offer Europa League football while Bochum will have neither.

Therefore all signs point towards Hagi lining back up at Ibrox again next season, but Bochum’s promotion has at least given them some chance of luring him to Germany.
