Jordan Campbell impressed by Jermain Defoe goal v Aberdeen

The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell was impressed by Rangers forward Jermain Defoe’s quality finish against Aberdeen at the Ibrox Stadium.

Defoe capped up what has been a brilliant season for Rangers with a well-timed finish in the 88th minute.

The Gers won the game 4-0 and with that finished the season unbeaten and with over 100 points for the first time in their history.

It was a truly special day for Steven Gerrard and his players, especially for Defoe, who’s had his critics.

The former England international found the way to silence the doubters with a calm and composed finish, leaving Joe Lewis helpless in the Aberdeen goal.

This finish certainly impressed Campbell who took to Twitter to say, “Jermain Defoe with another exquisite finish.

“Similar to last week, that feint to change the angle and get the defender to lean is just a killer move. Unreal how sharp he still is in those situations.”

Super sub at it again

There are talks about Defoe taking up a coaching role or possibly going back to England to finish his playing career.

We would like him to stay on at least for another year as goals like these are why he was brought to the Ibrox in the first place.

Despite his age, he’s still out there performing at his best and delivering the goods for his side.

He may not be a first-team regular, but his influence inside the dressing room is paramount. Gerrard knows he can rely on his former England teammate to set the tone for the younger players on the training pitch.

In our opinion, he’s proven his worth to earn another season at Ibrox. Playing in the Champions League for us is certainly something he would’ve wanted to when he signed for us in January 2019.
