Rangers Super Fans debate future of Glenn Middleton

Our panel of Rangers Super Fans are split over whether St Johnstone loan star Glenn Middleton should be kept at Ibrox beyond the end of the summer.

Middleton, 21, joined the Saints on a temporary deal in January and found it tough going at the start, but he’s sprung to life in recent weeks with two goals in his last two games, including a sensational free-kick in a 2-1 win over St Mirren on Sunday that sent Callum Davidson’s side into the Scottish Cup final.

His Gers contract doesn’t expire until 2023 but his future has been a hot topic of discussion amongst pundits.

Chris Sutton debated his Ibrox future on Premier Sports after Sunday’s game, claiming Middleton has a “big decision” to make while Michael Stewart believes he will have “plenty of options to go” if he adds consistency to his game. [Quotes relayed by Daily Record]

We posed the question on our Facebook page Rangers Insider over whether he should be sold in the summer to raise funds and make way for new arrivals.

Here’s what our Super Fans had to say…

Middleton has been the talk of Scotland recently with his Scottish Cup heroics adding to his Premiership winner in a 1-0 victory over Hibernian on May 1.

That’s two good Scottish sides he has scored against in successive games now so he clearly has the potential to succeed in the top-tier.

But can he take that form back to Rangers and force his way into the team past the likes of Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe?

That’s another matter altogether, and one we don’t have the answers to at the moment.

The suggestion would be no, given his inability to get much of a sniff under Steven Gerrard before he left on loan again.

But maybe this spell at St Johnstone has given him some newfound confidence that could ignite his flailing Ibrox career.
