Mentor of Borna Barisic says defender is ready for a higher level
Alen Petrovic believes Rangers star Borna Barisic will attract transfer attention this summer and is confident he could play in the Premier League.
The former Croatian footballer has been described as Barisic’s “mentor” by The Scottish Sun, and he told the paper that Barisic is ready to play at a higher level.
The 28-year-old was listed as one of three players Gers could look to sell this summer by Daily Record journalist Scott McDermott.
And Petrovic thinks a lot of clubs will be keeping tabs on Barisic during the Euros.
He told The Scottish Sun, “He has been a fantastic player for Rangers. He is a fighter and a winner. That is inside him.
“He is now ready for a higher level. He could play in the English Premier League no problem. I am 100 per cent sure of that.
“There will be a lot of clubs watching him at the Euros. What happens then is up to them.
“But I would say that probably all the big clubs in the top leagues know about him already.”
Hard to replace
Barisic has been phenomenal this season and he will be a very difficult player to replace.
He offers us a threat from deep as he is capable of picking out players in the box through his pinpoint crossing.
His assist for Kemar Roofe’s second goal against Celtic last week was a perfect example of that, and we would miss it if he left.
And in Barisic’s absence there is a risk that we would become too predictable, as we may have to solely rely on Ryan Kent to produce a bit of magic on the left-flank.
It is important that we get a suitable fee for Barisic if he does leave, otherwise there is little point selling him.
But he seems settled at Ibrox and unless a big Premier League team comes knocking we are confident he will not push for a move away.
