Rangers are on the verge of announcing Fashion Sakala ahead of the summer transfer window, according to the Scottish Sun.
The newspaper claims Sakala, 24, has agreed a four-year deal at Ibrox, which will begin in the summer when his existing terms at Belgian club Oostende expire.
It is understood that Ross Wilson has been in talks to get the deal done since last month and negotiations are now complete.
The Scottish Sun adds Sakala will “join Gers for preseason training in the summer”.
Getting them in early
It’s something that Steven Gerrard has done a lot in his time at Ibrox, getting new players through the door as early as possible in the summer transfer window.
It shows that Gerrard and Wilson know what they want and know who they want before the transfer window gets too crazy. It also allows them to take advantage of players going out of contract like Sakala.
This season, the Zambia international has scored 13 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions for Oostende.
According to stats by Wyscout, Sakala ranks seventh in the Belgian top-flight for expected goals this season [15.28] even though he ranks 17th for shots per 90 minutes [2.97].
It means that Sakala doesn’t get the most chances to score but when he does, they’re good quality chances.
However the fact his actual goals scored tally is lower than his expected total, means that he’s underperformed slightly for Oostende in the Jupiler League this term.
Still, Rangers are getting a proven goalscorer on a free transfer.
It remains to be seen whether Sakala’s arrival will pave the way for one of Gerrard’s existing strikers to leave but even so, Sakala is someone who’s bound to have some transfer value once he touches down in Glasgow.
We’re excited to see what he can offer to the team next season.
