Stiliyan Petrov was impressed by what he saw from Ryan Kent on Sunday as the Rangers winger starred in the 4-1 win over Celtic at Ibrox.
Kent, 24, didn’t get on the scoresheet but a wayward shot in the first half was directed into the back of the net by Kemar Roofe in the final Old Firm derby of the season as the Light Blues took themselves one step closer to an undefeated league campaign.
The former Liverpool winger was electric, being involved in almost everything when the Gers had the ball and after the match, ex-Celtic man Petrov reserved some special praise for the £20,000-a-week [Football Insider] Englishman.
“Ryan Kent was something special today,” Petrov said on Sky Sports Football after the match on Sunday.
“The way he was playing, he was giving them a completely different dimension.”
Keep Kent at all costs
There has been a bit of speculation surrounding Kent’s future at Ibrox lately and while Rangers will have to sell players in the summer to balance the books, we really hope the winger isn’t one of them.
This season has easily been Kent’s best in Scotland.
He’s scored 12 goals and supplied 14 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions for Steven Gerrard’s side.
No attacker in the Premiership is more dangerous than Kent, who’s had more touches inside the box than any other player and has completed more one-v-one dribbles [Wyscout].
Kent is simply irreplaceable. If he goes, Gerrard and Ross Wilson will have a monumental task of keeping him.
He’s a young English lad so if there’s interest from the Premier League, he could have his head turned but hopefully the lure of playing in the Champions League next term and playing for more silverware will keep him.
In terms of the finances, there are other players we should sell before Kent’s exit is considered.
In other Rangers news, this Gers target confirms he has an agreement to join a new club.
