Oostende striker Fashion Sakala has confirmed he has agreed a deal to join a new club amid strong speculation linking him with a move to Rangers.
Sakala, 24, has been in good form at Oostende in the Belgian Jupiler League this season, scoring 13 goals in 28 appearances.
The Daily Record has recently reported that with the Zambia international’s Oostende contract set to expire at the end of the season, Rangers are in advanced talks to sign him on a free transfer.
Now speaking to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, Sakala has confirmed he’ll announce his next club after Oostende’s match against Standard Liege, which kicks off at 7:45pm on Saturday.
“I have an agreement with a club, this week everything will be signed,” said Sakala. “After the game against Standard, I will make my choice known.”
According to Belgian news outlet Walfoot, “his choice will be” Glasgow Rangers.
Sakala’s had a good season with Oostende and has his best years ahead of him still so we think he could be a decent signing on a free transfer.
But what does Sakala’s move to Ibrox mean for Steven Gerrard’s existing strikers?
Alfredo Morelos’ future is going to be a massive talking point this summer because the Colombian came close to leaving the Gers last year.
He was strongly linked with a move to Lille but that failed to materialise and instead, he played a big role in the Light Blues winning title number 55.
Morelos could attract attention from elsewhere again in the summer and Sakala may have been eyed as a possible replacement.
Jermain Defoe’s likely to leave once his contract ends, so that’s one striker down but there’s still Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, both of whom joined last year.
It’s going to be a big summer at Ibrox and hopefully Sakala is the first of a few really good signings.
In other Rangers news, this European club chief is obsessed with signing one of Gerrard’s stars.
