Tam McManus was left amazed by Rangers forward Jermain Defoe after the crushing 4-1 victory against Celtic on Sunday.
The veteran forward came off the bench and put the icing on the cake with a clinical finish after embarrassing Stephen Welsh at Ibrox.
McManus was mesmerised by Defoe’s ability to twist inside and out before calmly slotting the ball past Scott Bain in the Hoops goal.
Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show on Monday, McManus was left laughing after Welsh was sat down by Defoe’s moment of magic.
“A guy like Jermain Defoe coming on,” he said.
“He’s nearly 40-years-old playing against a young kid in Welsh, pushes him into the ground, I think they had to unscrew him after the game.
“Great footwork from an older player, shifted it one way, shifted another and tucked it away.”
Look away now.
The last thing you want to see when down to 10-men and losing 3-1 is Defoe coming off the bench raring to go.
We have seen a different urgency from the veteran in recent weeks, from his goal against Cove to this clinical finish on Sunday, he wants to show he still has it.
Defoe is desperate to stick around at Ibrox beyond this season, and performances like this one certainly won’t do his chances any harm.
Steven Gerrard will have been delighted with his former England teammate, and the relief in his celebration was clear to see.
There is nothing we love more than humiliating our fierce rivals, and this time it was Welsh who was left more than red-faced at Ibrox; better luck next time.
