We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield looks set to miss out on the Old Firm clash against Celtic on Sunday.
The Canadian started the last clash between the two in the 2-0 Scottish Cup victory but missed the next round against St Johnstone on Sunday.
McLeish did share that Alfredo Morelos is almost guaranteed to start despite his failure in that previous defeat at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I think Scott is struggling a little.
“I believe he may not play. He could be a bit rusty and that Gerrard could go for momentum instead.
“I believe that he will definitely play Morelos, he wasn’t at his best deadly finishing, but he scored against Celtic and has broken his duck; they will be wanting to atone this weekend.
“To go and potentially lose to your biggest rivals, Steven is going to focus on his strongest side.”
It has been reported by The Scotsman that Arfield is a doubt alongside Filip Helander for the upcoming Old Firm.
Gerrard will have wanted more balance in his midfield, but with Ryan Jack and Arfield potentially missing, that would be impossible.
The baton will likely be passed to either Scott Wright or Ianis Hagi, with Joe Aribo likely playing further forward in the final third once again.
Gerrard will want to bounce back from the St Johnstone defeat with flying colours, and beating Celtic convincingly would be the perfect response.
