Alex McLeish: Joe Aribo set for this Rangers role v Celtic
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that Joe Aribo will be pushed into the Rangers front-three for the upcoming Old Firm clash against Celtic.
The Bears playmaker terrorised Diego Laxalt in the 2-0 victory in the Scottish Cup a couple of weeks ago and will look to do the same again.
McLeish believes that Steven Gerrard will be looking at things that won the previous meeting and looking to replicate them again.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I would think that the gaffer will be thinking that he’s got to go close to when they won the last game.
“They certainly will look at key things that won the last game, and that [Aribo] was one of them. There is every chance that could be done again.
“Steven Gerrard may think he has another player who could do that sort of thing.”
Laxalt has played at every level for Uruguay and AC Milan before moving to Celtic, and yet it was Aribo who tormented him at every step in the last Old Firm.
The 24-year-old attempted 10 dribbles in that win, and that was the most in any cup competition game he has managed all season [WyScout].
McLeish will be demanding game-changing performances from our biggest players this weekend, after all, they have some making up to do after that shocking defeat against St Johnstone.
