We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that the agent of Ianis Hagi will be exploring potential options for the playmaker to leave Rangers this summer.
The Romanian international has been strongly linked with moves to Lazio and Sevilla, who have both been long-term admirers.
McLeish believes that agents love to stir the pot, and his playing time may be a big turning point in the future of Hagi at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I’ve had the experience of players and agents when their client is not playing.
“They do tend to want to look elsewhere and keep the pot bubbling, and I don’t think Ianis Hagi and his agent will be any different.
“I would imagine that he will be looking for more game time. Whether he wants more exposure as a player, he’s certainly at an enormous club, but if I know agents, they will be working away seeing what’s out there.”
Hagi has an abundance of talent and has been labelled as “spectacular” in the past with his technique in the final third.
Only three players in the Bears squad have made more substitute appearances this season, but he has still made 20 starts; seven more than Kemar Roofe.
Steven Gerrard himself is a clear admirer of the Romanian, and these links may have gone to the head of our playmaking talent.
Sevilla and Lazio consistently feature in the Champions League, but with Rangers now throwing their own name into the hat for that, things may change.
Scotland now have two places and an automatic qualification spot from next season, and it will be interesting to see if that is attractive for Hagi; time will tell.
