Steven Gerrard has been thrilled by the start of Rangers playmaker Scott Wright since his arrival from Aberdeen in February.

The attacker scored his first goal for the Bears on Wednesday evening as they drew 1-1 against St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers boss singled out Wright for praise in his latest press conference on Friday afternoon, sharing his excitement at his progress.

Rangers shared the update on their official Twitter account, with Gerrard full of praise for his winter signing at Ibrox.

“Scott Wright has done everything he has been asked to do, he has been a model professional,” he said.

“In flashes, he shows why we wanted him here. A work in progress and very excited to have him here.”

Marvellous.

Wright was phenomenal in his first start against Cove in the Scottish Cup and finally was given the chance to shine from the beginning in the league.

The 23-year-old didn’t let us down, and if it wasn’t for that last-minute penalty, he would have scored his first match-winning goal.

It was his best performance in terms of WhoScored match ratings since November, as he completed nearly 70 minutes.

Gerrard is clearly taking his time with Wright, and after his first goal for the club this week, the sky is definitely the limit should the gaffers’ words be anything to go by.

We can’t wait to watch the progression of the playmaker as he continues to shine in Glasgow, this could be a massive bargain.
