Rangers are in pole position to sign KV Oostende striker Fashion Sakala in the summer despite interest from Lille, according to Voetbal Nieuws.
The Belgian football news website claims that while Ligue 1 leaders Lille are keen on 24-year-old Sakala, he would rather head to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.
Sakala’s contract expires at the end of the season and it is understood that the Gers are a “great candidate” in the race to sign the Zambian ace.
Speedy and versatile
It seems like a bit of a no-brainer for Rangers to sign Sakala.
The former Spartak Moscow forward has scored 13 goals in 28 league appearances for Oostende this season, netting against some of Belgium’s best teams like Gent, Standard Liege and Royal Antwerp.
The five-times Zambia international is a team-mate of on-loan Celtic defender Jack Hendry and earlier this season, he talked up the striker’s qualities.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Hendry said: “He’s very quick and scored another couple of goals for Oostende last weekend. He’s a player with real potential.”
Of course, Hendry is no scout but it doesn’t take a director of football to see whether or not a player is fast.
We’re always fans of seeing Rangers signing players with pace to burn and Sakala sounds as though he has that in abundance.
He can play on the wing as well as a striker so with the fact that he could be a free transfer in the summer makes this potential deal sound like a good one.
Sakala’s also reportedly ready to snub Lille in favour of Rangers. If a player is so keen to avoid joining the possible Ligue 1 champions for us, then it says a lot.
In other Rangers news, a playmaker with eight man of the match awards this season would consider a move to Ibrox.
