There is genuine behind-the-scenes hope at Rangers that Ryan Kent will stay at Ibrox despite fresh speculation linking him with Leeds United, according to GiveMeSport.
The Sun has recently reported that Leeds are lining up a £15million move for Kent, 24, this summer as Marcelo Bielsa attempts to sign the winger yet again.
However GiveMeSport reports that Rangers’ qualification for the Champions League and the signals they are set for a “period of sustained success” could be enough to convince Kent to stay in Govan.
Something must give
We’re not going to get through the summer transfer window without one of the big players leaving Ibrox.
In December, Stewart Robertson warned that the club will have to start selling players every summer in order to help balance the books [FourFourTwo] and Kent is one of the most valuable.
Rangers posted a loss of just over £15million last year and if Leeds have to pay over £15million for Kent, the ex-Liverpool winger will cover the Gers’ losses on his own.
And the same could go for Alfredo Morelos – but there’s now a report by The 4th Official which says he’s set to stay at Ibrox.
Rangers cannot keep this squad together going into next season – it just won’t happen from a financial perspective.
Kent and Morelos are possibly the two highest-valued players at Ibrox so either one of them will end up leaving or a number of lesser-valued players.
It’s easier to replace one player than, for instant, the entire spine of a team.
