Derek Ferguson has been blown away by Rangers defender Filip Helander and the role he has played in the Scottish Premiership success.
The Swedish international has come in for huge amounts of praise after his performances in recent wins over Hibernian and Celtic.
Ferguson labelled Helander as the destroyer and admitted that his main role is to disrupt the opposition, just as he did with Odsonne Edouard on Sunday.
Speaking on the Blues Brothers Podcast, Ferguson believes that the Bears squad will all appreciate the role of the Swede massively.
“This is why I was touching on it earlier,” he said.
“The job that some of the other players have to do, Helander is there to just destroy and stop the opponent from playing, and he does that brilliantly.
“But the players will appreciate that, they will love him.”
We love the fact that each player knows their role perfectly in this squad, and Helander isn’t there to look pretty, he is there to smash opponents.
Conor Goldson is the one who can get on the ball from deep and spray long passes around the park like a quarterback if needed, and he does that frequently.
That doesn’t mean that Helander can’t do that, but he isn’t as adventurous and does the job that Steven Gerrard will expect of him.
It may mean that he doesn’t get as many plaudits from the fans and the media, but that has changed in recent weeks after some tough games.
Our flair players didn’t catch the eye massively against Hibs, and it was Helander who left with many of the plaudits; it is well deserved.
