We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has been thrilled by Rangers midfielder Steven Davis after his huge role in the 2-0 victory against Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
The Northern Ireland international fired home an incredible acrobatic effort, hitting back at his critics at certain stages of the season.
McLeish believes that some players can be delusional when ageing, but Davis has proven his smartness as the season goes on.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Steven Davis comes up with a bicycle kick.
“Which is at his age, that is some feat. It was a great goal. I don’t know how many times we’ve mentioned him this season.
“At the start, it was probably all negative. It was a question of smartness, when your legs are worn, a lot of players have been delusional.”
Davis certainly isn’t delusional, and McLeish is spot on to suggest that he has more than proven himself since those bizarre suggestions.
The veteran has been superb this season, and he has had so much pressure to deal with as Ryan Jack continues to struggle with his injuries.
If anyone needed more proof that he can still do it, the midfielder smashing home that overhead kick against the Hoops was perfect.
McLeish will know Davis better than most, and even he will be scratching his head at where these critics have come from, there can’t be many left.
