Rangers took to Twitter to mock their Old Firm rivals after the win on Sunday and Ally McCoist found the interaction hilarious.

Celtic boss John Kennedy made comments about his side being the best team in Scotland ahead of the match and Gers could not help but make a cheeky response after the 2-0 win.

The comments clearly backfired as Rangers maintained their unbeaten record against Celtic this season and took a big step towards winning the Scottish Cup.

McCoist said on talkSPORT’s Breakfast Show, “I’ve got to be honest, John Kennedy the interim Celtic manager said that he believed that on their day his team were the best team in the league, they can beat anybody.

“So Rangers tweeted after the game ‘great result we managed to beat the best team in the country’,” McCoist added before ending his point with laughter.

Payback time

It is hilarious that some people still at Celtic are holding onto the dominance they have enjoyed for the last nine years.

Their time is over and the Steven Gerrard era has well and truly begun – a league and cup double is now in our sights.

Rangers

McCoist revelling in our success is brilliant to see, as is Chris Sutton finally beginning to accept that his beloved Celtic are now in our shadow.

Sutton told Premier Sports, “You had all the nonsense last week about John Kennedy saying Celtic are the best team in the country. I think Rangers proved today, I don’t like saying it, that they are the best team with the best players.”

Stevie G has transformed the state of Scottish football and while Gers go from strength to strength our rivals are questioning where and why things have gone wrong.

Because of that, we do not see Rangers falling away next year and our unbeaten run in the league could go on for many more months.
