Ally McCoist has singled out the “sensational” Joe Aribo after Rangers crushed Celtic in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
The Bears playmaker played an essential role in the second goal, embarrassing Diego Laxalt before firing it across the box for Jonjoe Kenny to score an own goal.
McCoist was thrilled by the “top-class” goal and believes that Aribo’s decision making of when to hit the cross was pivotal to the home side doubling their lead.
Speaking during live commentary of the game on Premier Sports, McCoist was left gobsmacked by the piece of skill from the former Charlton man.
“It’s sensational from Aribo,” he said.
“It really is. He turns Laxalt inside out here, he goes one way, just when you think he’s going to cross it the secret is, he takes the extra touch.
“I’m going to show you when that’s the bit that creates the space; brilliant. Kent gets across the frontman, what a finish it is.
“It is absolutely a top-class goal.”
There is no other way to describe this goal as Aribo simply destroyed Laxalt and the Celtic defence in putting it on a plate in the six-yard box.
Despite players thinking it was Ryan Kent who had smashed home, everyone charged towards Aribo to celebrate after it was his marvellous work that put them in that position.
The playmaker has transformed his game this season, and after bulking up to add to his skill on the ball, he has become simply untouchable.
Celtic’s defence were simply left bewildered and questioning each other when Aribo was on the ball, and that is testament to his hard work.
What a superstar, and he is only going to get better and better under Steven Gerrard.
