Rangers icon Barry Ferguson has sent a huge message to Steven Gerrard and the Gers players ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm clash against Celtic.
He has told them that they have the chance to become legends if they manage to pull off an incredible win over their cross-town rivals.
The Gers have already enjoyed a phenomenal season by winning the 55th league title in their history, which has seen Gerrard etch his name in the club’s folklore.
In his Daily Record column, Ferguson wrote, “They are already heroes, but now Steven Gerrard and his Rangers players have a chance to end the season as legends for the rest of time.
“Beat Celtic, take the Scottish Cup out of their trophy room and leave another big gap on their mantelpiece beside the one where the Premiership title used to stand.
“That’s what should be driving these players as the clock ticks down towards a fourth-round tie so tasty my mouth has been watering all week just thinking about it.”
A must-win game
There’s going to a bitter-sweet feeling from now until the end of the season if we fail to get the job done against Celtic.
While their season will nowhere be comparable to ours, we definitely do not want to give them bragging rights and make this a perfect domestic campaign under Gerrard.
Ferguson has summed up what all Gers fans have felt and we’ve been up for this encounter for weeks.
We are unbeaten in our last four meetings with the Hoops, including all three games this season.
A win on Sunday would see us eliminate our biggest rivals in a Scottish Cup tie before the semi-final stage for the first time since 1964.
A lot more than pride is at stake, but there hasn’t been this kind of confidence going into an Old Firm game for the longest time.
