Czech government refute racism claims and hurl Rangers accusations
Czech Republic politician Vratislav Mynar has issued a lengthy open letter to UEFA slamming them and Rangers over the Ondrej Kudela racism case.
Slavia Prague defender Kudela was handed a 10-match suspension by UEFA on Wednesday (14/04/21) after being found guilty of racially abusing Glen Kamara in their Europa League second-leg clash at Ibrox on March 18.
Kamara was also banned by the governing body for three matches as a result of a tunnel incident post-match, while Kemar Roofe will have to sit out four games due to his high-boot challenge on goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar, pending a club appeal.
But despite Kudela receiving the minimum punishment for racial abuse and the condemnation of two Gers players, Mynar has struck back at UEFA in a long statement on the President’s official website.
The post included: “The alleged racism? Penalty for 10 matches. I note that racism is unproven and alleged.
“All this just to fulfill the perverted expectations of a small group of activists and a club unable to win on the field, all the more so by shouting empty and hurtful phrases about racism.”
He continued: “I also consider it necessary to oppose this procedure.
“We will not kneel before you and no threats apply to the Czech football fan.
“The President of the Republic Miloš Zeman is acquainted with the situation in detail and considers it important not only from the point of view of sport, but also from the point of view of justice and human dignity.”
Disgusting defence
Despite the most lenient punishment possible they still refuse to hold their hands up and accept wrongdoing.
We’ve become accustomed to it from Slavia who have hurled endless crass insults and accusations since the incident but it’s now coming from the top of their country with senior ministers piling in on the act, with their President seemingly set to intervene as well.
How low can you go? When will it stop? There’s seemingly no shame and no end to their bias.
We can only imagine how Kamara will feel having to read this statement, he must be sickened.
Hopefully, the furore around the punishment, or lack of, will see it raised but we don’t hold much hope.
But there has to be some accountability on the behalf of the Czech government and Slavia themselves – how can they be allowed to go around pointing the finger of blame?
Own up and accept your medicine, it’s the bare minimum you can do after creating the circus.
