Gary Lineker delivers instant reaction to bans for Kudela and Rangers star Kamara
Gary Lineker has delivered a despairing reaction to the news that UEFA has banned both Ondrej Kudela and Glen Kamara after the incident of racist abuse in the recent Europa League game.
Kudeal said something to Kamara during the game which caused an instant and extreme reaction from the Rangers player, and he instantly accused the Slavia Prague player of racist abuse.
He was backed strongly by Steven Gerrard.
Kudela has been banned for 10 games while Kamara has been banned for three games for an alleged assault in the tunnel after the game.
Lineker summed up what all Gers fans are thinking when he said, “Banned for racism. Banned for reacting to being racially abused. Will they ever get it completely right?”
He delivered his reaction straight after the news broke on the BBC.
Lineker is bang-on
It’s the million-dollar question.
What message does this send out?
Kudela’s ban needed to be standalone and the message coming out from UEFA needed to be about him and what he did.
He needed to be made an example of and this fails to do that.
Instead, UEFA are saying, “He was bad… but he was bad too so, you know… two wrongs.”
Why conflate the two?
That’s without even getting into the fact that a 10-game ban is just not strong enough, as BBC pundit Michael Stewart already said.
We’re not sure what else we were expecting from UEFA but it wasn’t this.
The whole thing leaves a sour taste in the mouth and we imagine that plenty of other figures in the game are going to come out and say the same thing about this latest mis-step from UEFA.
When are they going to get it right?
