Michael Stewart made to look stupid in Rangers disagreement on BBC Sportsound

Michael Stewart was made to look a wee bit stupid on BBC Sportsound on Sunday as Rangers won 2-1 against Hibernian in the Premiership at Ibrox.

In the second half, Steven Thompson was introduced to the show and he gave a quick review on the Glasgow-versus-Edinburgh showdown in Govan.

The Light Blues were 1-0 ahead at the time courtesy of Joe Aribo’s first-half volley and as Thompson was giving his recap of the game so far on BBC Sportsound on Sunday, Stewart butted in on ex-Ger and asked: “You think Rangers have dominated possession?”

Thompson replied: “I do, yes. I need to look at the stats but I do think they have. Would you disagree?

Chick Young said that he doesn’t think they’ve “dominated” and Stewart replied: “Chick’s doing it for me. We’re in agreement, Chick.

BBC Sportsound host David Currie said: “Here’s the possession stat according to the BBC website. Rangers [have] 68 per cent possession.”

Stewart then argued it’s all been in the second half – despite just a matter of minutes being played since half time ended.

Stats don’t lie, Michael. And you’ve been absolutely done over there.

Stewart’s bias is at a point where you just have to laugh at it now.

While it was his former club Hibs who the Gers were playing against on Sunday, there’s no doubt he would have argued against the Premiership champions no matter who they were playing against.

Let’s face it, he’d argue with someone saying Rangers play in blue just to try and have a disagreement over the Ibrox club.

While Rangers didn’t dominate the whole game, possession is a stat and bears no bias. Rangers dominated possession at that point in the game and Stewart didn’t want to agree with Thompson pointing that out.

And even after Currie pointed out how much of an advantage the Gers had on the ball, he still had to make a point to try and suggest he was right and Thompson was wrong.

In other Rangers news, BT Sport pundits are fuming over what the Gers have decided to take a stance on.
