Kenny Dalglish commends Gerrard’s respect – Rangers are ‘miles ahead’ of Celtic

Kenny Dalglish believes Rangers are currently “miles ahead” of Celtic and highlights Steven Gerrard as the key reason for that.

Dalglish was commenting on the Old Firm in his analysis of what Celtic’s next manager must accomplish – suggesting the person appointed would do well to learn from Gerrard and his approach to managing Rangers.

In particular, he emphasises the respect Gerrard has shown throughout his tenure and made an admission that will sit well with Gers fans.

As quoted by The Times, Dalglish said, “Steven [Gerrard] has never, ever underestimated Rangers, the size of the club. He had respect for the club, he had respect for the people who supported the club, everything about it.

“He is appreciative in every way of how the people at Ibrox have supported him both financially and otherwise.

“Rangers are miles ahead of Celtic at the moment. As they are progressing, Celtic are in transition. The transition needs to take place quickly, or as quickly as it can.”

What a turnaround

When Gerrard arrived at Ibrox in 2018 he had the task of catching up to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic by winning the league.

He has completed that challenge and in some style too.

The fact Dalglish now recommends Celtic try and find someone like Gerrard says everything about the impact he has made.

There are few young managers who have made an impact like Stevie G this season and we are fortunate to have him.

And the best thing is that Rangers should go from strength to strength, as Gerrard’s competitive spirit means he will not rest with just one trophy won.

The Old Firm Scottish Cup match promises to be a brilliant affair and victory in that tie will give us one hand on the trophy.

Wrap that up and we can start preparing for next season and the Champions League – the sky really is the limit under Gerrard.
