Exclusive: Alex McLeish shares verdict on Rangers injury blow for Ryan Jack

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers will be “fearing the worst” over the recent injury troubles of midfielder Ryan Jack.

Steven Gerrard confirmed in his latest press conference this week that the Scottish international has visited a specialist to determine the severity of the blow.

McLeish believes that Jack is in the best hands, but that whenever you have to visit an independent source, it is never positive news.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It’s never good to be behind in pre-season.

“We’ve all got our different traits and levels of fitness, and he’s been a terrific player. You see the contribution he has made for Rangers for Scotland.

“It’s such a pity. He’s seeing a specialist and that will be for one particular injury, and he will have certain expertise. When you hear those words, you fear the worst.

“He’s in the best hands.”

Trouble.

Gerrard seemed positive when delivering the news, but this is a reality check for everyone to not expect the immediate return of Jack.

It could be wise to expect the midfielder to be out for the rest of the season, with it not being easy to force your way back into this side.

The Bears have been phenomenal, and that has come from the likes of Glen Kamara and Steven Davis in the heart of midfield.

Jack is irreplaceable, but he may already be targeting pre-season as a realistic timeline for his return after this campaign.
