Alan Nixon: Rangers v Celtic in Scottish Cup clash likely to be called off
The Scottish Cup clash between Rangers and Celtic next Saturday afternoon is likely to be postponed, according to Alan Nixon.
The reliable journalist has claimed that it “sounds like” the latest Old Firm instalment will have to be rescheduled after recent events.
After Prince Philips death this week, his funeral has been confirmed for the same Saturday and will be televised around Great Britain.
Writing on his personal Twitter account on Saturday, a fan asked Nixon if every single Scottish Cup clash will be postponed as it stands.
“Sounds like it,” he said.
Old Firm double?
These are just early suggestions, and it has to be taken at face-value until an official announcement is made by the SFA.
With a Scottish Premiership clash against Celtic at the start of May, it could lead to back-to-back Old Firm games at Ibrox; that would be a spectacle.
It would be a big decision, but the English Football League have already confirmed that their times and kick-offs will be rescheduled to accommodate for the funeral.
Nixon makes it sound as though the games will be fully postponed.
Surely, the SFA could just move the games to the following day on the Sunday, or even the night before on the Friday, with this season already congested.
Celtic are going into this one on the back of a crushing victory against Livingston on Saturday, but they may now be made to wait even longer to continue their so-called “momentum.”
