Alex McLeish: UEFA must make ‘heavy example’ of Ondrej Kudela if found guilty

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has suggested for UEFA to make a “heavy example” of Slavia Praha defender Ondrej Kudela if he is found guilty of racially abusing Glen Kamara.

The governing bodies have opened disciplinary proceedings against the duo, with Aamer Anwar calling for a one-year suspension for the defender.

McLeish believes that these unprecedented incidents are becoming worst and people are starting to call for the heaviest sanctions possible.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “People are calling for the heaviest sanctions.

“It’s unprecedented. We’ve never seen anyone been punished, but we have seen players walk off the pitch in recent years.

“These incidents are fairly new to UEFA and FIFA, and it is how they deal with the sanction, there has got to be an example made, a heavy example.”

Spot on.

The longer this goes on, the worst it is getting for UEFA, who should have dealt with this matter weeks ago after the Europa League clash.

Bongani Zungu and other players from Slavia Praha have opened up and given their accounts of the incident, meaning that there has been enough for a hearing at least.

The one-game provisional ban for last night’s game against Arsenal wasn’t good enough, especially with Kudela already ruled out injured.

It would be no surprise to see him miraculously recover from his injury this weekend, and UEFA have to deal with this with their biggest punishment possible.
