Alex McLeish compares Scott Wright to Mason Greenwood after Rangers cameo – Exclusive
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has compared Rangers playmaker Scott Wright to Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood after his first start for the club.
The former Aberdeen attacker brought his permanent move to Ibrox forward in February and has been slowly integrated into the squad by Steven Gerrard.
McLeish was very impressed with his cameo against Cove in the 4-0 win on Sunday evening, claiming that he will have wanted to finish his chances better.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “He looks like the type of kid who can bring something different to the team.
“He can commit defenders, he can twist and turn that is like Mason Greenwood. It’s only the first couple of sightings in the Rangers strip though.
“He was energetic, trying to be the offside lines and going in behind, timing those runs very well. He’ll want to brush up his finishing, but it looks like a good future for Scott in Glasgow.”
Brilliant weekend.
Wright and Greenwood have certainly both enjoyed themselves in the past week.
The Bears playmaker tormented Cove and has definitely thrown his name into the hat to start against Hibernian on Sunday.
Greenwood scored for the Red Devils in their Premier League victory against Brighton, also featuring in their 2-0 Europa League win over Granada last night.
Wright will want to have that sort of effect on this Light Blues squad, although it will be a slow process with this amount of talent in the team; it is a good start.
