Glen Kamara’s lawyer Aamer Anwar has slammed UEFA for what he’s called “shocking treatment” of the Rangers player.

UEFA announced that they were provisionally banning Ondrej Kudela for one match but that they were opening proceedings against both him and Kamara for incidents in the Europa League game.

In a statement, UEFA said, “Following an investigation conducted by a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector regarding the incidents that occurred during the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League Round of 16 second leg match between Rangers FC and SK Slavia Praha on 18 March 2021, proceedings have been opened against Mr. Ondřej Kúdela in order for the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) to assess a potential violation of Article 14(1) or Article 15(1)(a)(iv) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) and against Mr. Glen Kamara in order for the CEDB to assess a potential violation of Article 15(1)(g) DR.”

Anwar said: “So @UEFA ‘provisionally’ suspends Slavia Prague Kudela & he can’t play Arsenal, as it begins disciplinary proceedings against him for racial abuse of @RangersFC @GlenKamara4. If they are genuine about tackling racism he should be banned for at least a year.”

Anwar promised a full statement on the “shocking treatment of Kamara in comparison to that of Kudela” would be released shortly.

UEFA are not coming out of this looking good

UEFA might have a process to follow after allegations against Glen Kamara but wrapping the two players up in a single statement doesn’t look good at all.

Given the weight of evidence against Kudela, there are surely grounds to suspend him from football while the investigation takes place.

Anwar thinks he should be banned for a year.

If he’s found guilty it’s hard to make a case for him to play again.

Meanwhile, Kamara, said to be in a really bad state by Gerrard after the game has to go through the extra hurt of being investigated by UEFA himself.

We don’t hold out much hope that UEFA are going to do the right thing here. We appreciate it’s innocent until proven guilty, but in many walks of life, people would be suspended while an investigation of this gravitas takes place.

Football should be no different.
