Exclusive: Rangers Women expert gushes over ‘massive statement of intent’ as Gers smash Hearts

We’re delighted to welcome Rhiannon from the Rhiannon’s Rangers Rundown podcast, as our exclusive Rangers Women’s expert. Each week she’ll be giving her views on the biggest talking points at Auchenhowie.

Rangers Women got off to a flying start with a 6-0 win over Hearts as the Scottish Women’s Premier League season finally resumed.

The Gers found themselves 5-0 up by half time as goals from Sam Kerr, Kirsty Howat, Zoe Ness and a Lizzie Arnot brace put us in a strong position.

Kerr added another after the break as Malky Thomson’s side picked up where they left off before the season was put on hold.

There is no doubting that this is a statement of intent as the result meant we stayed top of the table on goal difference.

Ibrox News’ Rangers Women’s football expert Rhiannon watched the game and has told us exactly why this result is so encouraging.

“A strong 6-0 win was a massive statement of intent as Rangers refused to take their foot off the gas and ran rampant.

“It bodes well for us if we manage to keep up this intensity against the other teams in the WSPL.

“The whole team played well but I have to mention Zoe Ness, who to me was outstanding, her weight and range of passing was outstanding. She was definitely integral to our movements going forward.

“Kirsten Reilly is someone I’ll always want on the pitch and she was fantastic again against Hearts.

“Nicola Docherty and Lizzie Arnot were brilliant on the left wing, both the crosses for the goals were excellent.

“Sam Kerr deserves special mention for getting her first two goals for Rangers. We were composed on the ball, lots of interchangeable passes and we stretched the Hearts defence well by moving the ball from side to side, making them work really hard.

“The second half was quieter but the defence did well to keep a clean sheet. All in all a solid team performance, three points and six goals to give us daylight ahead of Glasgow City.”
