McLeish View: Allan McGregor set to be replaced by Jon McLaughlin for Rangers v Cove
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish believes that Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor will be dropped for Jon McLaughlin in the Scottish Cup tie against Cove.
The veteran stopper has recently signed a new one-year deal at Ibrox and has started 24 games in the Scottish Premiership this season.
McLeish insists that McLaughlin is more than capable, and will actually feel grateful to get another appearance under his belt this season.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Yeah, I think McGregor will probably want discussions about it, knowing him.
“He just loves playing, but I would think that he will also welcome a rest. He’s got a very able and capable deputy in Jon McLaughlin.
“Jon would be grateful for yet another appearance in the Rangers jersey.”

Sensible.
Steven Gerrard may be making numerous changes to his side this evening, but it will be experienced options coming in to stake their claim.
McLaughlin was pushing McGregor all the way at the beginning of this Scottish Premiership season, with his excellent performances helping this impressive defence.
After Greegsy more than nailed down his spot in Ibrox history this season, the only chances McLaughlin will get are in the Scottish Cup, and he must enjoy it.
It shouldn’t be a busy evening against Cove, but he will be relishing the chance to get back out on the pitch with the famous Bears once again.
