Exclusive: Alex McLeish predicts fairytale clash between Rangers and Cove

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has labelled the Scottish Cup Third Round tie between Cove and Rangers as “fairytale stuff” as he predicts a handsome home victory.

The League One club travel to Ibrox on Sunday evening looking to pull off a huge upset on the Scottish Premiership champions.

McLeish believes it will be a tough tie against an organised outfit, but backs the Bears to deal with them ruthlessly in Glasgow.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “They’re very well organised are Cove.

“They have a proven manager over the years, and I think when you look at them every week, you’re always expecting a little club.

“I still keep looking and being astonished by their results and how far they’ve come as a football club, and when we get paired with them, wow, that’s fairytale stuff.

“Will they defend? Obviously, you would expect Rangers to take care of them and send them packing, and show that ruthlessness.”

No prisoners.

It may well be a fairytale for the away side, but the minute that Rangers switch off and start treating it like that could be the moment they are punished.

Steven Gerrard will use this chance to rotate his squad, but it will be the same message.

He will want his squad to go out and take care of their business in a destructive manner on the pitch, and that way they can stake their claim for a spot in the side against Hibernian.

Cove may be relishing this perfect opportunity, but it is time for them to enter what could be a long, long nightmare.
