Chris Sutton has taken a subtle dig at Rangers in a five-word Twitter response to Sunday afternoon’s Scottish Cup fourth-round draw.

Rangers are in third-round action versus Cove Rangers on Sunday evening but with that the only outstanding tie to be played opponents have now been picked out for the next stage of the competition.

The stage is set for a mouthwatering fourth-round Old Firm clash after Celtic were picked out as their next cup opponents, should they progress past lower-league Cove at Ibrox.

Ex-Celtic striker Sutton couldn’t resist taking a swipe at the Premiership champions as he hinted that Cove could progress to face the Hoops.

Chris Sutton tweeted on his personal profile following the draw: “Possible Cove Rangers v Celtic.”

Wind-up merchant

Sutton knows what he’s doing here.

He can’t resist the chance to knock down Rangers at any opportunity and to try and wind supporters up.

Cove are currently riding high in League One and are eying promotion to the Championship but the difference between them and the team they come up against at Ibrox on Sunday is huge.

Steven Gerrard’s side remain unbeaten in the top-tier of Scottish football after 33 games whilst progressing to the last 16 of the Europa League after topping a group containing Portuguese giants Benfica.

Anything other than a comfortable Gers win over Cove would be one of the biggest shocks in Scotland for many years, and we cannot fathom the thought of such an embarrassing defeat.

Sutton knows the likelihood of Cove progressing to the next round is substantially less than ‘possible’ but that doesn’t garner Twitter replies or retweets.

He basks in the criticism aimed at him by Bears and it’s seems to be the only thing keeping him going amid Celtic’s crumble this season.

It seems any distraction is a good distraction for him. Desperate times.

In other Rangers news, tweet confirms whether Michael Stewart will be at Ibrox for Gers v Cove Rangers.
