McLeish View: Scott Wright has perfect chance for first Rangers start v Cove
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish believes it is the perfect opportunity to hand Scott Wright his first Rangers start against Cove in the Scottish Cup on Sunday evening.
The Scottish Premiership champions welcome the League One side to Ibrox in their first outing after the recent international break, and changes are expected.
McLeish was wowed by Wright after his cameo in the 1-1 draw against Celtic last time out and believes he can back that up this weekend.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I would think so.
“Certainly watching him coming on against Celtic, he looked lively. I thought, wow, this guy is a real threat, so this is the perfect platform for him to show why Steven Gerrard brought him in.”
Perfect.
As McLeish mentions, there will be no better time for Wright to be handed his first start at Ibrox in a game where he could really cause some damage.
The return of the Scottish Cup has not only offered the chance of a domestic double, but a valuable opportunity for the entire Bears squad to get some action under their belts.
Wright has come off the bench five times already in the Scottish Premiership and has only completed 79 minutes, and he needs to be unleashed tomorrow.
