McLeish View: Rangers should start bidding at £10m for Filip Helander
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers should start the bidding at £10million with Premier League interest in defender Filip Helander.
Aftonbladet have reported in the past week that Aston Villa and Leicester City are considering a move for the Gers enforcer.
McLeish believes that the Bears should want more than double what they paid for Helander, and that is just as a minimum in the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “You’re selling someone to the Premier League, I would think even more than double.
“I would think that Rangers should ask for more if that’s the case, if they fight to keep then that’s a different matter. Certainly, I would think that it should start at £10million.
“You can always move it up from there.”
Start the auction.
Should a bid of more than £10million arrive at our doorstep this summer, it would be near impossible for the Bears to turn it down.
Conor Goldson is our main defender, and that will always be the case.
Leon Balogun is fighting Helander for that second spot, and a huge bag of cash coming in would give Steven Gerrard the perfect chance to bring in more competition.
Elfsborgs defender Joseph Okumu has been mooted as a possible replacement, and he would cost nowhere near that amount; this could be very smart business.
