McCoist says Rangers are coming for Celtic amid Howe speculation
Ally McCoist says Rangers are coming for Celtic once more as a summer of change awaits the Bhoys.
Chris Sutton raved about the potential appointment of Eddie Howe but McCoist quickly put him in his place.
The former Ger mocked Sutton for his Churchill-esque speech before listing the players who could leave Parkhead at the end of the season.
Sutton seemed to imply that McCoist, who was a representative of Rangers fans on the BT show, was worried about Howe joining Celtic.
He told BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra, “I’m looking at McCoist right now and I can see fear, I can smell fear.
“What surprised me is Eddie Howe has been out of a job since the end of last season and wasn’t put in place before now. It’s absolutely baffling.
“Now, in terms of an appointment, I believe Eddie Howe would be a good one. He’s young, he’s hungry, he’s organised.
“His temperament, as we’ve seen over the years, he can handle himself.”
McCoist was not having any of that, and quickly mocked his colleague for getting carried away.
He then made the claim that Rangers will be coming for Celtic once again as they look to defend the Scottish title next season.
McCoist said, “Well, contrary to what Winston Churchill was giving us there, I’m not exactly shaking in my shoes.
“The only thing missing from Sutton there was ‘we’ll fight them on the beaches, man’. What was that all about?
“Edouard will go, there’s every chance Christie will go, McGregor might go…there’s no shaking in my shoes.
“There’s everything to play for next season…there you have it Winston stick that in your pipe and smoke it, we’re coming for you again.”
Nothing to fear
McCoist simply cannot resist any opportunity to wind-up Sutton, and we can’t get enough of it.
Sutton is always trying to stick the boot in and annoy Gers fans himself so he deserves a taste of his own medicine.
As for Howe, we are not too concerned about the prospect of him joining Celtic.
He has never won anything at the highest level and the biggest club he has managed in his career is Burnley.
Howe was not a success there and has only done well with Bournemouth – he even got them relegated too.
Steven Gerrard should have the upper hand and has the added advantage of now being quite experienced in the Scottish Premiership – particularly compared to Howe.
As McCoist says, Rangers have nothing to fear – it should be Sutton and Celtic who are shaking in their boots.
