Dalglish comment on Gerrard future provokes emotional response from Ally McCoist

Sir Kenny Dalglish is confident Steven Gerrard will continue to be successful but comments about his Rangers future provoked an emotional response from Ally McCoist.

Dalglish was a guest on Alan Brazil’s talkSPORT show and the pair got talking about Gers and Gerrard’s future.

The former Liverpool forward seemed to hint that he thinks Gerrard will stay at Ibrox as he knows Rangers are bigger than most Premier League teams.

Rangers

Brazil asked on his talkSPORT Breakfast show, “Will he stay Kenny do you think, Steven?

“Everyone keeps saying he’s waiting for the Liverpool job … if a big English club came along would that tempt Steven because a lot of people don’t realise how big Rangers is as a football club.”

Dalglish replied, “No but Steven does, Steven knows how big it is. He keeps preaching it to the players and everybody else how important it is and how big the club is.

“Steven will be hugely successful in management wherever he goes and whatever decision he wants to make will be the right one for Steven.

“I’m sure if he was to go from Ibrox there would be a few tears.”

McCoist then interjected, “It’d break my heart ,mate. to be quite frank I’m in tears at the prospect of it.”

Going nowhere

There are few people who know Scottish football and the lure of Liverpool as well as Dalglish.

The fact he seems confident that Gerrard will stay at Ibrox for the foreseeable future is reassuring, though of course the Scot could not be certain about his long-term future.

Paul Merson recently linked Stevie G to Newcastle and Crystal Palace [Sky Sports], as Brazil alludes to, but Dalglish does not think those types of clubs will appeal to our manager.

We support that view. Gerrard is becoming a legend at Ibrox and why would he swap that for a bog-standard Premier League outfit?

Gers also have Champions League football on offer next season so Gerrard will have the opportunity to test himself against elite managers.

There is nothing better than a winning feeling too.

We have number 55 sewn up and Gerrard could not have been happier in the celebrations afterwards.

That was a brilliant achievement but we are sure he would enjoy a league title win even more if it came in front of fans.

We think he will stay for a few more years yet as there is still plenty left for him to achieve at Ibrox.
