Alex McLeish has strongly questioned the reported Premier League interest in Rangers defender Filip Helander this week.

Aftonbladet have reported that the Swedish international is wanted by English duo Leicester City and Aston Villa in the summer.

McLeish believes it could be Helanders’ agent spreading rumours as he hasn’t seen much to warrant a move to the Premier League over the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Aston Villa have spent a lot of money in recent years.

“Over a couple of hundred million to be an ever-present Premier League team, and they may carry on spending like that.

“I’ve not seen that much of him to say he’s now linked with a Premier League team, so there must be something in the analysis for him to be linked that way.

“It could be the agent just throwing his name out there.”

Questions.

McLeish doesn’t appear to be a massive fan of Helander.

The Swedish international has failed to nail down his spot alongside Conor Goldson this season and has been switching with the likes of Leon Balogun.

Football Insider have reported that there is a £6million price tag on his head, with the club said to be confident of securing a big profit.

Should an offer come in that doubles the Bears initial outlay for Helander, based on this verdict by McLeish, it may be hard to turn down.
