Alan Hutton & Charlie Adam react instantly as Rangers confirm McGregor contract

Allan McGregor has signed a new Rangers contract and former teammates Alan Hutton and Charlie Adam have rushed to applaud the news on Thursday.

The 39-year-old’s future had been up in the air for a number of weeks but he has now penned a one-year deal, via Rangers’ official site.

The news will likely be warmly welcomed by Gers supporters and Hutton and Adam could not hide their delight for the goalkeeping veteran.

Hutton responded with “buzzing for you McGregor, well deserved”, while Adam acknowledged that it was “great news” before offering the Scot his congratulations.

Best business of the year

Rangers will make signings this summer and complete other contract renewals this year but none will be better than the new deal for McGregor.

He has been outstanding this season and a big reason behind our success.

We are delighted he has committed for at least another term and the news will be a big lift for everyone associated with the club ahead of the latter stages of the season.

We still have a Scottish Cup to win and McGregor’s leadership on and off the pitch will be vital to our success in that competition.

The Champions League also presents a new and different challenge for us next term and having McGregor’s experience should provide great guidance.

Rangers have now tied down our two most experienced players with Steven Davis signing a contract earlier this month.

Those deals will also prove valuable for our young players while giving Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson time to find their successors.

It will be great to see the pair in live action when fans return to stadiums and we will give him a proper send-off if he ends up retiring next year.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart has broken his silence over Kamara incident with a claim about a video clip.
