Report: Premier League top-10 trio eye summer swoop for Rangers ace Borna Barisic
Rangers defender Borna Barisic is being eyed by three Premier League clubs with a view to a summer transfer, according to GiveMeSport.
The 28-year-old has been a Rangers revelation since his 2018 transfer from Osijek in his homeland of Croatia and he has made over 100 Gers appearances under Steven Gerrard.
However he could be in line for an Ibrox exit with GiveMeSport claiming that he is hot property south of the border.
The report claims that all three English teams reside in the top 10 of the Premier League.
Barisic still has three years left on his Gers contract [Transfermarkt] so the club hold all the cards if these clubs do come calling.
Big boots to fill
It’s that time of the season where rumours start flying around ahead of the summer transfer market.
The current campaign is starting to draw to a close for the Light Blues with the Premiership title already wrapped up and the club out of the Europa League knock-out stages.
There is still the small matter of the Scottish Cup to keep interests alive as well as the potential of ensuring a season of invincibility in the league.
But the reality is that the club and its roster of players will be weighing up their options ahead of next season.
Some figures will try to leave of their own volition while others will be ruthlessly shipped out of Ibrox.
Barisic certainly does not sit in the latter and it may be that a move to the Premier League interests him at this stage of his career.
The £18,000-a-week [Salary Sport] ace is a key component of Gerrard’s side and his importance was further underlined in February when he was handed penalty-kick duties in the absence of regular taker James Tavernier.
He scored three in the two-legged tie versus Royal Antwerp in the Europa League to power Gers past the Belgian side.
It would be a big blow if his head is indeed turned but we’d back Gerrard to replace him and if the profile of club interested is true, then we could expect a sizeable fee for the Croatian international.
In other Rangers news, Leon Balogun’s Ibrox future appears to have been sealed.
