Rangers’ Defoe takes to Twitter to ‘put the record straight’ over recent comments
Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has taken to Twitter to ‘put the record straight’ after some of his comments were taken the wrong way.
Defoe recently spoke to TalkSPORT about Harry Kane’s future and it was widely reported that the Gers forward instructed Kane to leave Tottenham if he wanted to win trophies.
This clearly isn’t what Defoe meant with his comments and he took to social media to clarify what he meant.
In the message, Defoe said, “I just want to put the record straight.
“I woke up this morning and I saw a headline about me saying that I said ‘Harry Kane has to leave Tottenham’.
“That’s not what I meant. As a Tottenham fan, I love the club, everyone knows my relationship with the club and the fans.”
Defoe then goes on to talk about how he was talking about Kane’s ambition and how he never actually said that Kane must leave Spurs to be successful.
Defoe is in his Rangers training gear on the video and it looks as if he is at Auchenhowie, gearing up for the last few games of the season.
The upcoming game against Cove Rangers would be an ideal time for Defoe to get some minutes though Steven Gerrard could easily play Alfredo Morelos with fixture congestion no longer an issue.
It was easy to see what Defoe was saying with his comments about Kane and while he does suggest that Kane might have to leave Spurs to win a trophy, he never explicitly says that he has to.
We can understand why he’d want to clarify this as it clearly wouldn’t go down well with the fans of the club he supports.
Hopefully this is the end of the issue though it does seem Gers players can’t stop themselves from being embroiled in matters with the media, not that it’s ever the player’s fault.
