Peter Martin: Celtic appointing Roy Keane gives Rangers upperhand next season
Peter Martin has claimed that Roy Keane being given the Celtic job would lower their chances of wrestling the Scottish Premiership title from Rangers next season.
Football Insider has reported that Keane is the clear front-runner and is in talks at Parkhead to front their response to title number 55 at Ibrox.
Martin claimed that this appointment wouldn’t be tactical or professional moving forward, and puts the Bears another step ahead in Glasgow.
Speaking on the Football Show on PLZ Soccer today, Martin made the huge claim that Rangers could be the big winners in this situation.
“The whole place has gone crazy as Roy Keane as Celtic manager,” he said.
“I know Alex McLeish said that the players could have a big say on who is the next Celtic boss is, you couldn’t trust the players to win the league, never mind on coming up with who the boss is.
“If they pick Roy Keane as the next manager of Celtic, for me, there is no tactical or professional approach to how they’re going to wrestle the title off Rangers.”
Appoint and hope.
This would be brilliant news for the Gers, and would simply be laughable.
Keane has been a regular in the Sky Sports studios this season and has been nowhere near a dressing room for a number of years now, nevermind one in total disarray.
The Manchester United icon hasn’t managed a club since he left Ipswich in 2011 and has only taken up the role of assistant three times since under Martin O’Neill and Paul Lambert.
This is picking and hoping from Celtic, and it will only end in tears.
Keane is known for his meltdowns and rage, something that will come plentiful at Parkhead given their shocking record this season; favourites already? That’s surely guaranteed.
