Ondrej Kudela will not fly to Wales after alleged racist incident at Rangers

Ondrej Kudela will not fly with the Czech Republic squad to Wales next week “with regard to his safety”, according to Czech journalist Jiri Hosek.

Last Thursday, Kudela was alleged to have racially abused Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara when Slavia Prague won 2-0 at Ibrox in the Europa League.

Since then, Kamara’s lawyer has said, via The Guardian, that Police Scotland “are now expected to question Kudela when he returns next month on the 8 April to England to play Arsenal”.

However, Kudela’s return to the UK could have been next week with the Czech team set to play Wales in a World Cup qualifier.

Kudela won’t be travelling though, with Seznam Zpravy journalist Hosek saying on his personal Twitter account on Thursday: “Ondřej Kúdela, according to information from Slavia’s management, was ready to fly to Wales. However, with regard to his safety, Slavia decided to stay in the Czech Republic.”

Slavia also hit back at what Kamara’s lawyer said about potential questioning from the police.

Hosek added: “According to [Slavia], information about Kudela’s possible detention in Britain is not based on truth with reference to the Scottish police.”

Kudela the coward

It sounds as though Kudela is scared of returning to the UK for something else, rather than the claim that he’s fearing his safety.

If the Czech squad is going to play Wales in Cardiff, then why on earth would Kudela have any worries about his safety? Does he think a bunch of Rangers fans are really going to make the journey down from Glasgow to greet him or something?

What a load of rubbish.

Slavia’s decision to hit back at Kamara’s lawyer over the claims about the Scottish police, side by side with this update on Kudela, say exactly everything you need to know.

It would not be a shock to see Kudela ruled out of the match against Arsenal in the Europa League next month so that he never ends up returning to the UK. Maybe an injury or an illness will crop up for him. Who knows?

Slavia have shown their true colours by their stanch defence of Kudela. The fact they’re going to such lengths to defend him is completely idiotic and really shows the level of intelligence at that club.
