Czech ambassador shares what he knows about Rangers-Slavia racism storm
Czech ambassador Libor Secka has spoken out about the events that unfolded at Ibrox last week when Rangers star Glen Kamara was allegedly racially abused.
In the latter stages of the Gers’ Europa League defeat to Slavia Prague, Ondrej Kudela was spotted covering his mouth and saying something to Kamara that caused instant outrage and also appeared to have been heard by Bongani Zungu.
Kamara’s lawyer has since called for Slavia to be kicked out of the competition with the Czech club seemingly standing by Kudela and releasing statements to doubt the veracity of Kamara’s allegation.
Czech diplomatic Secka, who is based in London, has since been talking about the alleged incident to iSport.
When asked about his involvement with Slavia’s stay in Glasgow, he said: “We have provided what we commonly call the consular service. When our citizens turn to us in need, we try to find a solution for them within our means.
“Slavia called out to me that they felt threatened. We discussed everything, I found out what the situation was. After some time, we decided to contact the police and ask them for the increased protection of Slavia in Glasgow.
“The London headquarters contacted the Scots, who contacted us and the police assured us that he had the situation under control, that the expedition would get to the hotel safely and that everything in its vicinity was fine. They also informed us that they would oversee the transport to the airport, which then happened.
“Communication with the police was very good.”
When asked what information he has about the alleged racist incident on Thursday, Secka said: “People from the Slavia expedition also mentioned this incident, but I was far from knowing what had happened there. Everything went very busy.
“My concern at the time was not to investigate what had happened, I could not even from London, but to provide increased protection for Slavia. We did what we could and should have done.
“I can’t comment on what happened at the stadium, I wasn’t there and it wouldn’t be objective.”
Ugly incident to rumble on for weeks
We could be hearing updates on the alleged racist incident at Ibrox for weeks upon weeks because of varying factors.
Of course, it’s not like it’s two Scottish or even two UK clubs at the centre of the dispute, it’s one in Glasgow and one in Prague. Plus there could be delays due to COVID and plenty of other allegations made from the Czech club.
Unfortunately, none of this helps Kamara.
Even if justice is served, it doesn’t get rid of how he must have felt in that moment a week ago.
We cannot even start to imagine what it must have felt like and nor are we trying to, but everyone at Ibrox News and every associated with Rangers Football Club is behind the brilliant midfielder, whose season needs to be remembered for how well he’s played and not this one incident.
In other Rangers news, there’s been a huge explosive claim about what happened between the Gers and Slavia in the first leg in Prague.
