Alex McLeish has backed Rangers playmaker Scott Wright to play a big role in the closing stages of the Scottish Premiership.

The Bears now have five games to play after the season split, with the January signing yet to start a single game at Ibrox since arriving from Aberdeen.

McLeish was impressed with Wright’s cameo in the Old Firm clash on Sunday and believes that will give him more of a chance to feature after the international break.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Yeah, I think so.

“He looked very lively when he came on and he looked as though he could make a big difference. Steven will be sure to have noticed that.

“It would be a decent chance now for Scott Wright to feature in the closing games.”

Big chance.

Wright has been given a number of substitute appearances already and looked at his sharpest on the biggest occasion on Sunday.

In 17 minutes alone, the 23-year-old won three of his five offensive duels according to WyScout, his most since arriving at the club.

The Scottish Cup returns against Cove Rangers after the international break, and Gerrard is almost guaranteed to give Wright his first start at Ibrox.

Should Wright impress against the lower-league outfit, it will give him a great opportunity of keeping his spot for when the Scottish Premiership returns against Hibernian.
