View: Trevor Sinclair out of his depth talking about Scottish game
talkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair showed his true colours this morning when talking about the recent Old Firm clash between Rangers and Celtic.
In case it wasn’t clear enough, on the day of the game, he posed on social media wearing a Celtic shirt.
He followed that up on the White & Jordan Show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 10am) by refusing to acknowledge the game as an Old Firm match and giving a crazy assessment of Celtic’s season.
“I demand an explanation,” Jim White said. “I woke up on Sunday morning, prepared to watch Celtic v Rangers, then I see on social media a photo of my good friend Trevor Sinclair holding a pint of Guinness and wearing a Celtic shirt.”
“It was just for the photo,” Sinclair replied. “I ended up drinking about five pints so I’m not going to do that again. But no, getting into the spirit of things for that Glasgow derby.
“I thought Celtic played really well, especially in the opening 45 minutes, controlled the game, great patterns of play, but again the finishing wasn’t good enough, and it was almost a reflection of their whole season in that 45 mins where they dictated play, created lots of opportunities but just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.”
White said he was amazed that Celtic didn’t go all out for the jugular in a bid to stop Rangers from getting an Invincibles season.
Sinclair needs reigning in
Is it necessary for Sinclair to be needlessly inflammatory?
Refusing to call Rangers v Celtic games Old Firm clashes seems to have become his way of getting a reaction and he doubled down on his Twitter account ahead of the game last week.
However, it wasn’t that long ago that Sinclair himself was calling it an Old Firm clash, after Rangers beat Celtic 2-0.
This is all just petty and needless and should really be picked up by White.
However, what’s even more ridiculous is Sinclair’s assertion that Celtic dominated the last Old Firm game and that this could be applied to their performance all season – that the only reason they’ve lost so heavily to Rangers is that they can’t put the ball in the net.
Celtic have been absolutely woeful this season and their problems go way, way deeper than not being able to put the ball in the net.
It’s the sort of thing you’d expect to hear from a fan and a pretty unhinged one at that.
And would it really hurt a pundit who’s being employed for his knowledge to actually give Rangers credit for an incredible season?
