Desmond Q&A highlights huge rift at Celtic after Gers dominance
Celtic principal shareholder Dermot Desmond gave a very brief Q&A on Wednesday, presumably with the hope of getting fans back on board after a season of utter dominance from Rangers.
It backfired, like most of the stuff they’ve done this season.
Desmond answered some questions about the hunt for a new manager but said nothing of substance, and gave no reason for Rangers trampling all over his club.
And, when he was asked for his analysis of the season he said, “Firstly, the season is not over yet, as we are still in the Scottish Cup.”
He did admit the season had been disappointing but got angry when his credentials as a fan were questioned.
His answers and the replies to the tweet were indicative of a club in big trouble.
Comments from fans ranged from, “I hate getting lied to,” to “Can’t take anything said in this interview serious” and “Utter shambles.”
We imagine that wasn’t the idea of the exercise.
What it shows is a club that’s completely detached from its fanbase, and making bad decision after bad decision.
That’s huge for Rangers ahead of a season that should see the champions qualify automatically for the group stage of the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Celtic’s season isn’t over as they’ve got the Scottish Cup to play for.
The gulf to Rangers couldn’t be any greater. Fans, board, manager and players are all signing to the same hymn sheet at Ibrox and we can’t remember the last time there was this feeling of togetherness.
We can’t wait until next season. After we’ve won the Scottish Cup, obviously.
