Daniel Bachmann heaps praise on Rangers stopper McGregor
Daniel Bachmann labelled Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor as top-class after a string of impressive performances and saves as of late.
The Watford stopper is to make his debut for the Austria national side against Scotland at Hampden. McGregor isn’t in the Scotland squad, he announced his retirement two years ago.
Speaking to the Daily Record ahead of his first cap, Bachmann praised McGregor for his unbelievable save away to Slavia Prague for Rangers. He said: “There are so many senior Scottish goalkeepers playing at a very high level just now.
“I saw McGregor’s save and it was unbelievable.
“The day after that game myself, Ben Foster and all the goalkeepers at Watford were talking about it at training and were all agreed it was just absolutely incredible. One of the best you will see.
“McGregor has obviously looked after himself so it doesn’t matter what age you are. If you are top class you are top class.
Best of the lot?
An argument could be made for McGregor to still be Scotland number one.
Steve Clarke called up David Marshall, Craig Gordon and Jon McLaughlin to national duty ahead of the clashes with Austria, Israel and the Faroe Islands.
Of the four keepers, McGregor is definitely playing at the highest level. Gordon is in the second tier with Hearts, whilst David Marshall is playing for struggling Derby in the English Championship.
Jon McLaughlin has played just 11 times in the 2020/21 season for Rangers, currently being kept out of the side by McGregor himself.
Rangers number one has contributed massively to the Gers lifting their 55th title this season in breathtaking fashion. Not to slate the other keepers, but McGregor is leagues above them.
If he were to come out of retirement he would be Scotland’s number one going into the European Championships, there is no doubt.
In other Rangers news, a Czech journalist has made this bold claim regarding the clash with Slavia Prague.
